WWF Living Planet Centre
Woking, UK
WWF wanted to use their new Headquarters building to demonstrate how organisations can operate in a sustainable way. Following that ethos the building design aspired to achieve the highest standards in sustainable design to reach BREEAM ‘Outstanding’, the highest classification of sustainable design achievable in the UK at this time.
Respect for the natural environment and biodiversity enhancement is a core value of the work of the WWF and therefore is reflected in the design of their new Headquarters. The design seeks to express the spirit of woodland by setting the new building carefully on the site where it will be wrapped by existing mature trees and enhanced woodland under planting.
The approach to the landscape design of the site reflects a shared aspiration to develop a landscape and building form that is integrated and responds to opportunities and constraints presented by the site and brief. The landscape design has been developed to provide a rich and stimulating, yet simple and functional landscape setting that will be used and cherished by the employees of WWF-UK and by public visitors.
