The Brentford Project: One Year On
One year on from the completion of Phase 1, The Brentford Project is emerging as a vibrant new riverside quarter in West London.
Our latest short film captures how the landscape and public realm we
designed for developer Ballymore have evolved over the past twelve months —
showing how a once-brownfield site is transforming into a thriving,
biodiversity-rich neighbourhood that reconnects the High Street to the
waterfront.
Reconnecting town and river
At the heart of The Brentford Project is a bold vision: to stitch Brentford’s historic High Street back to the water’s edge. New lanes and yards now weave their way through the development, leading down to relaxing waterside spaces along the River Thames. These spaces are designed to flex to different needs — from markets and cultural events, to tranquil spots to sit and enjoy the riverside setting.
A landscape-led quarter
Designed around landscape and community, the project brings nature into the city in many forms. Residents and visitors enjoy access to private podium gardens, an outdoor pool and cloistered gardens with a play area. Meanwhile, new planting and habitat creation are helping to enhance biodiversity and support wellbeing in the heart of the capital.
Reflecting local heritage
When Grant Associates was appointed to develop the detailed design and delivery of the landscape, our priority was to create an inclusive, welcoming environment that reflects Brentford’s rich character as a working waterfront. Today, that vision is taking root: a place where community, creativity and wellbeing meet.
