Grant Associates and MVRDV shortlisted for Singapore Rail Corridor

A design team led by landscape architects Grant Associates and architects MVRDV has been shortlisted by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) of Singapore to develop an overall concept master plan for the city’s 24km-long Rail Corridor.

The Grant Associates/MVRDV team, which also includes Singapore-based Architects 61, is one of five international teams shortlisted for the second stage of the ‘Rail Corridor – An Inspired and Extraordinary Community Space’ Request for Proposal (RFP).  A total of 64 teams from around the world submitted proposals.

Singapore’s Rail Corridor is a unique 24km-long ‘green corridor’ running spanning north to south Singapore, connecting homes, work places, schools and public areas.  Now the Government is keen to build on the Rail Corridor’s heritage to create an extraordinary cross-island green artery and an outstanding and inclusive public space for all Singaporeans.

In the next phase of the RFP exercise, the shortlisted design teams will develop the overall Concept Master Plan and Concept Proposals for the Rail Corridor, culminating in a public exhibition to be held from October to November 2015, when the winning team will be announced.

The successful team will then be invited to develop a preliminary design and feasibility study for  a signature 4km stretch of the Rail Corridor from the former Bukit Timah Railway Station are to the Hillview area.
