Grant Associates appointed to Carpenters Estate regeneration team
Grant Associates has been selected as part of the winning design consortium responsible for delivering the vision for the next phase of London’s largest regeneration project.
Lund Quarter, the second phase of Newham’s Carpenters Estate regeneration project, will see the refurbishment of Lund Point tower together with extensive new build and landscaping, in line with the estate-wide Masterplan, developed collaboratively with the local Carpenters’ residents.
Grant Associates joins Phase 2 Lead Designer Hawkins\Brown, Bell Phillips, Fisher Cheng, Pell Frischmann, Aecom, MEP, Pillar, RPS and Cumming Group in the design consortium that has been appointed by Populo Living, Newham’s wholly owned housing company.
Lund Garden Quarter is set to be a distinctive landscape-led neighbourhood, with emphasis placed on distributing open spaces evenly throughout the quarter to ensure that every resident can enjoy access to nature right at their doorstep or entrance. The external areas will be carefully designed to serve as integral parts of daily life, providing opportunities for play, relaxation, and social interaction.
The proposal ties into the street pattern of the overarching masterplan and addresses the four unique characteristics of each plot boundary. Two new play garden streets will be created on either side of Lund Point, orientated to pull nature into the site and offer views out to green space for all homes. In line with Populo Living Sustainability Charter and Grant Associates ethos there will be a strong emphasis on a holistic approach, integrating nature-based solutions, climate mitigation and urban ecology.
The announcement of the winning design team for the Phase 2 - Lund Quarter on the Carpenters Estate marks an exciting milestone in progressing the vision set out by the residents in the estate-wide masterplan.”
We welcome Hawkins\Brown and the suite of outstanding companies to the Carpenters’ team. We look forward to working together to build on the good work set out in the outline Masterplan with residents. The tenant-led Masterplan sets the agenda for over 2,200 greener and beautiful new homes that many more Newham residents will call home. Phase 2 – Lund Quarter, will be transformational for the estate and set out new homes, streets and public space for the existing community to move to, making way for the delivery of the rest of the masterplan.
The process of developing a detailed design is now underway with the aim of submitting a detailed planning application for Phase 2 to build upon the outline application in Autumn 2025.
