Elementum & Rail Corridor wins Singapore Landscape Architecture Award 2025

The Singapore studio of Grant Associates has received a Silver Singapore Landscape Architecture Award in the Commercial and Industrial Landscape category for Elementum & Rail Corridor at one-north, Singapore.

Developed by Ho Bee Land and designed in collaboration with SOM and DCA Architects, Elementum redefines the relationship between workplace, public realm and ecology — transforming a complex urban site into a cohesive landscape where innovation and nature coexist.

Located at the northern gateway to Biopolis, Elementum sits adjacent to the Rail Corridor’s Buona Vista Community Node, a 1.6-hectare public park also designed by Grant Associates. Together they form a dynamic precinct where the Rail Corridor’s green spine merges with architecture and community life, creating a vibrant space for work, play and public activities.

At ground level, a porous and welcoming landscape blurs the boundary with the Rail Corridor’s rustic character, providing seamless connections to adjacent developments and transit nodes. A flexible, sheltered public plaza offers space for informal gatherings, exhibitions and community-driven events, while an amphitheatre links directly to the Rail Corridor and The Metropolis, animated with art, planting and seating to draw people in.

The Buona Vista Node strengthens this sense of community. A series of inclusive, people-oriented spaces — including an open lawn, biophilic playground, and inclusive fitness areas — deliver public value while supporting active, healthy lifestyles for residents, workers and visitors.

Rooted in the site’s layered history as a former floodplain and railway corridor, the design integrates vegetated swales, raingardens and native planting that recall historic waterways while enhancing biodiversity and stormwater management.

The landscape continues vertically up the Elementum building itself. Sky terraces and a lush podium roof garden create immersive green spaces at multiple levels, from quiet “wilderness gardens” for reflection to lively, collaborative terraces that extend the workplace outdoors.

“The design for Elementum & Rail Corridor shows how landscape can actively shape commercial developments to enhance workplace culture, public life and biodiversity,” says Stefaan Lambreghts, Associate Director, Grant Associates.

By embracing the Rail Corridor as a living extension and treating site constraints as generative, the project demonstrates the potential of nature-integrated urbanism. Urban rewilding, community life and workplace wellness come together in a cohesive, multi-level system of green spaces — where nature is not only visible, but embedded in the daily experience of working, commuting and living.

Since opening last year, Elementum & the Buona Vista Node have become well-loved community park, a living demonstration of how urban landscapes can reconnect people with nature in the heart of the city.
