Brabazon: from new trees to coffees and teas

Grant Associates has been working at Brabazon for over a decade, helping to shape the landscape framework for one of the UK’s most ambitious regeneration projects.

This month marks two important moments in the life of the scheme. Along Runway Approach – the main arterial route through the site – the first of 222 trees are now being delivered and planted. Together, they will form a defining green corridor, supporting biodiversity, active travel, improving climate resilience and creating a strong sense of arrival as the new neighbourhood grows.

Elsewhere on site, the newly opened Mokoko Bakery at Spitfire Hangar is already bringing energy and everyday activity to Brabazon. Grant Associates designed the external landscape to support this adaptive reuse, creating welcoming outdoor space that connects the historic structure to its wider setting.

These moments reflect the layered nature of Brabazon’s development – from long-term landscape infrastructure to the immediate social life of new places – and the role of landscape architecture in supporting both.
