Studied Landscape Architecture in University of Pretoria, South Africa, 2011-2015.
Kyrstyn joined Grant Associates in 2016 after completing her master’s degree with distinction, and as the top master student in the Built Environment Faculty at the University of Pretoria in South Africa. Her award-winning master’s thesis addressed the problem of limited burial space in urban environments; the non-sustainability of traditional burial, repetitive cemetery design, and the influence of South African culture and beliefs on burial site design.
Kyrstyn is passionate about stereotomic architecture, the seamless merging of architecture and landscape, shaping/moulding the landscape as well as architectural language and detailing of spaces accordingly. Her main interest lies in natural systems and the innovative integration/adaption of it into projects, and creating beautifully crafted and well defined spaces, with regard to order, form, and space. She also has an interest in threshold design, capturing/creating moments in the landscape, and locally grounding a project in its environment and culture through use of local materials and artisanship.
