The aim of the landscape design for Nottingham Science and Technology Park is to open up science and technology to everything around it, using a fusion of nature and technology to create a striking and uplifting environment for users and visitors. The landscape is organised around a distinctive ‘green spine’ which connects University Park to Dunkirk Pond, taking the visitor into the heart of the site and providing an ecological walk between the two parks. The spine features a series of interlocking wooden lily pads, forming a boardwalk with decked spaces for sitting, meeting and relaxing. The walk winds through a wildflower meadow and over a new area of wetland, which also forms part of the sustainable urban drainage system (SUDS). Biodiversity is further enhanced by tree planting along the site boundaries and in specific clumps and zones within the development plots to reflect the local oak and birch woodland habitat. Vehicular impact is minimised, with discreet undercroft car parking and road surface materials that indicate pedestrian priority.
