Falmouth College of Arts & Digital Media Centre

Grant Associates created the landscape masterplan for the new Falmouth College of Arts campus on the estate of the 17th-century, Grade II-listed Tremough House in Penryn, Cornwall. The aim was to establish a sensitive landscape framework for new academic buildings, service facilities and student accommodation which gave a coherent structure to the campus and complemented the existing buildings and new architecture.

The masterplan produced an integrated campus, reserving the academic core for staff and students and providing a network of paths, cycle routes and quality external spaces, gardens and courtyards. The new scheme was underpinned with an integrated water management strategy. Particular attention was paid to respecting the historic parkland and setting of Tremough House, which include one of England’s earliest rhododendron collections and a 17th-century lime avenue.

Grant Associates also worked on the design and implementation of the landscape and public realm for the first major new building on the site, the Digital Media Centre. The works included a new access road, new woodland, car parking and an arrivals landscape for the new campus.
