Grant Associates was appointed to create a landscape masterplan for the central park, Garghour Gardens in Tripoli, Libya. Our masterplan brings structure and diversity to the gardens, with planting inspired by existing local habitat types.
- A continuous stand of pine trees – the Urban Forest – acts as the principle structuring landscape element, providing an aerial canopy for numerous park activities in an enhanced microclimate
- A linear and interconnected sequence of formal gardens runs along one edge of the central park
- A detailed and sensitive planting matrix for the park, adjacent streetscape, community spaces and courtyards
- Planting strategy inspired by the Tripoli Greenbelt ‘necklace’ and its principle vegetation types: urban agriculture, wadi, stone pine forest and coastal seascape
