Using an integrated architectural and landscape approach, Grant Associates worked with Penoyre & Prasad Architects to design and implement a 600-pupil secondary school on the outskirts of Olney, north of Milton Keynes. The simple design responds to its rural setting in Buckinghamshire, taking advantage of the 9-metre level change across the site to create extensive views from the grounds and separate the various amenities. The school is organised around a central courtyard, providing shelter and views out.The courtyard space is a colourful balance of strong geometries and practicality, providing visual stimuli from within the building as well as an educational resource with seating, an outdoor arena and a teaching garden.
