
Andrew Grant, RDI - BA (Hons), CMLI, Hon FRIBA
Director
Studied Landscape Architecture at Heriot-Watt University/Edinburgh College of Art, 1977-1982
Andrew formed Grant Associates in 1997 to explore the emerging frontiers of landscape architecture within sustainable development. His approach is driven by a fascination with creative ecology and the promotion of quality and innovation. He has extensive experience in all project scales and types from sub-regional planning to detailing the smallest landscape feature. He is a member of CABE Space and the South West Regional Design Panel. In 2012 he was awarded the title of Royal Designer for Industry (RDI) in recognition of his pioneering global work in landscape architecture.

Keith French BA (Hons), Dip LA (dist), CMLI

Studied Landscape Architecture at Leeds Polytechnic, 1987-1992
Since joining Grant Associates in 1997, Keith has worked on a variety of large-scale landscape and urban design projects, particularly in respect of design development, project coordination, detail design, procurement and implementation. Keith became a Director of Grant Associates in 2005 and has a particular interest in combining innovation and creative ecology in landscape architecture. He was Project Director for Gardens by the Bay in Singapore, the Middlehaven masterplan and public realm strategy in Middlesbrough, the St Paul's School masterplan, and the Newlands Common masterplan in Waterlooville.

Peter Chmiel BA (Hons), Dip LA (Hons), CMLI

Peter joined Grant Associates in 1997, bringing with him expert experience in project coordination, detail design, procurement, implementation, and landscape maintenance/management. Peter became a Director of Grant Associates in 2005 and takes the lead role on the horticultural management of projects, using his strong working relationships with many leading UK and European tree nurseries. In particular, Peter's combined knowledge of construction and programming and horticulture has ensured the successful delivery of many national and international schemes. He has been Project Director for a number of sustainable housing developments, education schemes, cultural and heritage projects and renaissance schemes incorporating public realm strategies.

Andrew joined Grant Associates in 2000, following two years in New Zealand working on ecological design, implementation and management projects, including landscape restoration and habitat creation. Andrew has worked on a variety of projects since joining the practice and is particularly interested in the creative and collaborative design process with architects and artists and enjoys the technical challenges presented at detail design.

David Finch BA (Hons), BArch, Dip LA, RIBA, CMLI

Originally trained as an architect, David worked in London on a number of significant residential and commercial projects. He went on to study Landscape Architecture at Kingston-upon-Thames, pursuing his interest in the design of urban spaces and the integration of nature within cities. David joined Grant Associates in 2003, where he has enjoyed the challenges of creating urban spaces with locally distinctive identities in which people and nature can live and play.

Tim Osborn BA (Hons), Dip LA, CMLI
Senior Associate
Studied Landscape Architecture at Manchester Polytechnic, 1984-1989
Tim joined Grant Associates in 2006. He has a strong design background, developed and refined over more than twenty years of creative and design-focused landscape practice. Tim has extensive experience in urban regeneration and renewal projects, including public realm and streetscape design, construction on site and practice management. During his career he has been responsible for delivering a wide range of projects across the UK, including award winning, major public realm and regeneration projects in Belfast, Manchester, Birmingham and Brighton. He has specialist experience in the design and delivery of horticultural and botanical glasshouse projects as visitor attractions. Between 2007 and 2010 Tim was package Leader for the Cooled Conservatories at Gardens by the Bay in Singapore.

Carly Lamb MA (Hons), CMLI
Senior Associate
Studied Landscape Architecture at Heriot-Watt University/Edinburgh College of Art, 1998-2003.
Carly joined Grant Associates in 2003 after studying in Edinburgh. Keen to continue explorative work in contemporary landscape architecture from her studies, she has since worked on a wide variety of projects of different scales. Projects include the detail design of the Stirling Prize-winning Accordia residential development in Cambridge with architects Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, the design and implementation of the National Trust Headquarters in Swindon, and the design and implementation of Osprey Quay coastal regeneration project and the new headquarters for the Woodland Trust. Carly has been working in Singapore since 2009 on the implementation of Gardens by the Bay and now works in our Singapore office.

Tamasine Scott MA (Hons), LArch, CMLI

Tamasine joined Grant Associates in June 2003. She has been the project landscape architect for a variety of large and small projects, from Cooled Conservatories and University Campuses in Singapore to Secondary Schools in UK and Urban Parks in Spain. Her professional experience spans from conceptual design through to construction, with playful idea development, innovative communication techniques and refined detail design. Within all her projects Tamasine enjoys using the elements and processes that form our environment to enrich experience, from the delicacies and beauty of habitats to the colours and forms that affect our lives. How people experience the spaces and what they learn from them is a constant interest and the personal motivation behind the design process.

Claire Hobart MA(Hons), CMLI

Claire joined Grant Associates in 2001. Her work has included detail design and implementation of completed schemes such as the Rolls Royce assembly plant in Chichester, the 2008 Stirling Prize-winning Accordia residential development in Cambridge with architects Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, redevelopment of the central dockside at Bristol Harbourside, new play areas and revitalised open space at Colley Park in Sheffield, and exemplar school John Madejski Academy in Reading. She was Package Leader of the Infrastructure works for Gardens by the Bay in Singapore 2007-2010. She has recently been working on the urban residential development of Bath Western Riverside and a masterplan scheme for Brentford Waterside. Claire is still driven by the thrill of seeing initial ideas brought to life to become valuable cherished spaces.

James Clarke BA (Hons), LArch, Dip B LArch

James joined Grant Associates in 2003, following two years in the Middle East working on a variety of schemes which entailed masterplanning, detail design, project implementation and site supervision. Prior to that, he worked for a year in Manchester. James has enjoyed working on a wide range of projects since joining the practice, including Middlehaven in Middlesbrough and Runnymede Civic Council Offices in Surrey with Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios. He was involved in the Gardens by the Bay project in Singapore, acting as Package Leader for the Supertrees. Special interests include hand-drawn and digital visualisation techniques, and incorporating contemporary trends and humour into urban settings through a collaborative approach with architects, engineers and artists.

Mark Fletcher BLA (Hons), CMLI

Mark previously worked in Oxford on several high-quality urban regeneration projects. Since joining Grant Associates in March 2006 he has worked on Bridge Learning Campus in Bristol (part of the Building Schools for the Future initiative) and John Madejski Academy in Reading, both of which are innovative new-build designs in deprived areas. Other projects he has worked on include the Olympic VeloPark, the Middlehaven development in Middlesbrough and Gardens by the Bay, Singapore. Mark has a depth of experience in detail design and implementation, and is interested in sustainable design and incorporating historical narratives into contemporary public open spaces.

Danny Nagle MA (DESS), MA (Hons) L Arch, CMLI

Danny moved to Bath to work for Grant Associates in 2007, following two years working in Leamington Spa. Prior to this, he spent five years in Paris, where he studied town planning and worked on a range of landscape projects including the rehabilitation of Luye River in Gap and a 2km-long park on the banks of the Seine. From these large-scale hydrological projects, the importance of rainwater management as an attractive structural element has formed an intrinsic part of Danny's projects. Danny is currently working on a range of projects from masterplanning to detail design and has supervised several projects on sites such as 2.5 hectares of woodland planting in Hampshire, the Corby Cube external works in Corby and New Islington public realm in Manchester. Danny is also the project landscape architect for St Paul's School in London.

John Dawkins BEng (Hons) CMLI, PgDip LA

Studied Landscape Architecture at University of Central England, Birmingham, 2001-2004 and prior to this studied Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering at Strathclyde University, Glasgow, 1995-1999.
John joined Grant Associates in 2011 having gained 5 years post qualification experience from an exciting range of UK and International based projects. Developing landscape proposals from initial concept, detailed design and technical specification through to implementation and on site supervision, John has taken a lead role in both the private and public realm with projects spanning from strategic masterplanning, the design of new public spaces to the restoration of historic landscapes. John takes inspiration from the intricate relationship between people and the land and enjoys the exploration of how one can respond to this through design to enhance their interrelationship.

Lucy Fair MEng (Hons), MLA, CMLI

Lucy began her career as a structural engineer in London, where she was involved in the refurbishment of several historic buildings as well as a number of landscape and masterplanning schemes. Following completion of her postgraduate degree, Lucy has worked as a Landscape Architect in Edinburgh and Bath, where her work has included a number of large-scale regeneration schemes as well as schools, business parks and environmental impact assessment. Since joining Grant Associates in the summer of 2008, Lucy has worked on a variety of different projects including regeneration and masterplanning, schools and academies and civic building schemes.

Aymara Izquiel-Langley BA (Hons), MSILA

Aymara joined Grant Associates in 2008 to work as site resident landscape architect at Gardens by the Bay in Singapore, and now continues to work in our Singapore office. She has over 20 years experience working in Asia and has been involved in a diverse range of projects covering masterplanning, detail design, project implementation and site supervision. Prior to moving to Singapore in 2001 Aymara was based in Hong Kong where her work included public and private housing masterplans, government funded initiatives for new parks and public open space, and highways and infrastructural projects.

Lise joined Grant Associates in 2006 and has been part of the design teams for Gardens by the Bay in Singapore and Park Hill in Sheffield. Lise started her design career in the costume arts, and is motivated by shifting scales of design.

Will Day BA (Hons), Dip LA, CMLI

Will joined Grant Associates in June 2006 after studying for a Postgraduate Diploma in Landscape Architecture at the University of Gloucestershire, where he graduated with a distinction. During his final year his portfolio was shortlisted for the Midlands Branch of the Landscape Institute`s John Knight Prize. With a first degree in Fine Art Sculpture, he is particularly interested in the conceptual approaches to landscape architecture, and the ever-blurring boundaries between landscape, fine art and architecture. Will has worked as part of the Infrastructure Package team on Gardens by the Bay, Singapore and more recently has been involved with a mixed used development in Shenzhen, China. With extensive experience of educational landscape schemes he is project landscape architect for a number of schools projects in the south of England and is also working on a public park in Tyneside.

Chin-Jung Chen MA (Hons) CMLI

Chin has been working at Grant Associates since January 2006 and has worked on a variety of UK and International projects including Gardens by the Bay in Singapore, and Jodrell Bank. She is interested in conceptual approaches to landscape architecture and has participated in some winning competitions with Grant Associates, for example Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester and Bird Island in Kuala Lumpur.

Oliver McIlvenna BA (Hons), Dip LA, CMLI

Oliver has 7 years' experience working on a variety of urban landscape and masterplan regeneration schemes, including the Athletes Village for the London 2012 Olympics. His work ranges from conceptual design through to construction, with particular experience in planning delivery. He was responsible for the Wembley Stadium landscape strategy in London with Make Architects, a 160,000 sqm mixed use development across 5.71 hectares. The scheme received the Landscape Institute 'Commended' award for the Urban Design and Masterplanning category in November 2011. Oliver enjoys the communication and collaborative aspects of the design process, as this enriches projects and encourages innovation. In all his work he looks to find the unique social underlining to each project, using both historical reference and future needs to develop the design and influence user experience.

Melissa Orr MA (Hons)

Having spent her year-out work placement at Grant Associates, Melissa returned in 2007 after completing her Masters Degree. Her special interests include using graphics through from conceptual to detail design to inspire landscapes with the emphasis not only on the scenic but also the sublime, sombre, productive, ecological, healing, dynamic, lively and quirky. She believes in the integration of natural systems with people and their environments to create landscapes full of colour, texture and the rhythms of life. Melissa joined the site resident landscape architects for Gardens by the Bay in 2011, and now continues to work in our Singapore office.

Yong Hoe joined Grant Associates in 2009, following four years with Forum Architects, SMC Alsop and Consortium 168 which entailed detail design, project management and site supervision. He has been involved in a wide range of projects including housing, shopping malls, schools and offices. He joined our implementation team for Gardens by the Bay, and now continues to work in our Singapore office.

Yasmin Alzadjally MA (Hons) First Class

Yasmin joined Grant Associates in the summer of 2008 for her year-out placement.After completing her Masters Degree she returned in the summer of 2010. Previously she had worked for Make Architects in Edinburgh, focusing primarily on the Inverness Campus and collaboration with KMT Architects on a project in Salzburg. Her interests include the integration of ecological processes and water systems into the built environment, and the treatment of the transition zones between them. Yasmin enjoys using a variety of graphic styles, especially those mixed with hand drawing and painting, to capture the textures and dynamics of a landscape and express its unique character and distinct ecological qualities.

Hannah joined Grant Associates having completed her Masters in Landscape Architecture in 2010. Interested in the experiential, as well as ecological qualities of landscape, Hannah believes in creating spaces that not only combine these themes, but will enhance them too. Since being at Grant Associates, she has worked within a number of design teams, ranging in scope from an inner-city academy to urban regenerations and private housing developments.

Rob Wells BA (Hons) PG Dip

Rob joined Grant Associates in January 2012 working previously at a multi-disciplinary practice in the Midlands and Gillespies in Leeds. He believes in the blurring of traditional boundaries of landscape and architecture, whilst exploring their intrinsic relationships to create beautiful places that have a powerful social effect. Specific interests include using landscape as both an aesthetic and functioning process, whether this is through creative water management or encouraging a particular ecosystem to thrive. Ultimately his passion is to showcase landscape as a discipline that actively addresses current global social and climate issues.

Lin joined Grant Associates in February 2013, previously working for Chris Blandford Associates on multi-scaled landscape projects in both the UK and overseas. She has a solid and dynamic multi- cultural education background in architectural design, urban planning and landscape masterplanning and design. Her enthusiasm is particularly on urban regeneration and public realm revival. She strives to improve environmental quality through innovative landscape methods, to create stimulating and evocative public realm designs with a lasting legacy. Lin is also keen to combine her hand drawings with digital design skills to present different landscape approaches.

Before embarking on landscape architecture Sian had a successful career as an interior designer, working in Australia, Spain & the UK. In her design projects she always appreciated the connection between the interior & exterior of a building and how it related to its context and wider landscape. She worked on several projects that fused interior, exterior and landscape, creating a harmony between the outdoor space and the interior. These projects, along with an interest in planting & urban regeneration, led her to concentrate on the design of the external environment. After completing her Conversion & PG Diploma courses in Landscape Architecture at Leeds Met University in 2011 Sian worked at Planit in Manchester. Sian joined Grant Associates in 2013 and is interested in boundary free design, the changing scale of design & greening cities.

Ruth Thorp BSc (Hons)

Ruth joined Grant Associates in 2008 after receiving a First Class Honours degree in Architecture from the University of Bath. She had previously completed 2 summer placements with Grants in 2006 and 2007. Her main focus is design for people, believing that landscape design should ultimately meet the needs of the users in providing successful, beautiful spaces that inspire and function efficiently, and that can be enjoyed. Ruth has been involved in a number of UK projects such as Scunthorpe Sports Academy and Parks Project, Olympic VeloPark and Worcester Library as well as a number of school projects. She has also been involved with competition bids and projects in Singapore and Malaysia.

Daniel Holmes

Daniel began working for Grant Associates in 2008 on a part-time basis while studying Architecture. He has graduated with a distinction from Saint Martin's College in a foundation in Art and Architecture and is now working for Grant Associates full time. Daniel's architectural heroes include Louis Kahn, Frank Lloyd Wright and Christopher Alexander, and his interests extend to furniture design as well as the built environment.

Ewan Morrison BSc (Hons) Industrial Design

Ewan joined Grant Associates in 2010 as a 3d Designer. He has worked in Architectural and design studios in Italy and Denmark designing furniture, architectural details, and products. Ewan is interested in generating fresh and innovative ideas within 3D design, visualisation and animation in landscape architectural design.

Linda Lucking
Finance Director
Linda has worked for Grant Associates since 2002, bringing with her many years' experience gained throughout her career in management and accounting within various industries, including mail order, entertainment and aviation.

Nicky Kelly
Office Manager
Nicky's role at Grant Associates is to ensure that the office runs smoothly on every level.She joined the team in December 2008, bringing with her a wealth of office and management experience gained throughout her career both in the UK and overseas.

Abi Bowhen
Finance and Admin Assistant
Abi joined Grant Associates' Admin team in 2011 having previously worked for a property maintenance company. As well as sharing the Reception duties, Abi's main focus is to assist with the daily general finance tasks and other aspects of administration to ensure all runs well within the office.

Helen Vipond
Office Support
Helen joined Grant Associates in 2013 having previously spent several years in retail. As well as sharing Reception duties, her main role encompasses all travel arrangements and ensuring that all Health and Safety in-house tasks are completed.
