    Sustain Award for International Project 2013

    Gardens by the Bay wins the CBRE sponsored International Project prize at the Sustain Magazine Awards 2013. The ceremony was hosted by impressionist and actor Alistair McGowan at The Guoman Tower Bridge Hotel London.  Members of the design team from Grant Associates, Wilkinson Eyre and Atelier Ten were present to receive the award and celebrate the achievement.

    Marc Quinn's 'Planet' sculpture unveiled at Gardens by the Bay

    On the 18th January Marc Quinn's 'Planet' sculpture was unveiled at Gardens by the Bay. The world renowned sculpture joins over 40 other artworks set amongst the gardens, aiming to engage and inspire visitors. 'Planet' first appeared in the Beyond Limits exhibition of contemporary sculpture at Chatsworth House in 2008, and was recently included in Quinn’s 2012 exhibition 'The Littoral Zone' at the Musée Océanographique in Monaco.

    Grant Associates scoops double win for Gardens by the Bay at Design for Asia Awards 2012

    The two prestigious Design for Asia Awards for Gardens by the Bay were presented to Andrew Grant, Founding Director of Grant Associates at the Hong Kong Design Centre on the 6th December 2012. Whilst accepting both the Grand Award as well as a Special Award for Technology, Andrew Grant stated; “We’re delighted to see Gardens by the Bay receiving recognition and appreciation for design excellence in Asia with these two prestigious awards. Asia embraces design innovation, sustainability and human imagination which makes it both an exciting and enjoyable area to work in”.

    Andrew Grant Awarded Royal Designer for Industry

    Huge congratulations to our founder and managing director Andrew Grant for being made a Royal Designer for Industry (RDI) this week in recognition of his pioneering global work in landscape architecture.

    Andrew is one of 12 designers singled out this year for their outstanding contribution to design and society.  He will be presented with his award at a ceremony at the Royal Society of Arts in London on Wednesday November 14th.

    The Royal Designer for Industry is the UK's highest honour for industrial design.  Just 200 designers can hold the title at any one time.  Other current Royal Designers for Industry include Terence Conran, James Dyson, John Galliano and Vivienne Westwood.

    Grant Associates and Team are shortlisted for West Kowloon Park Competition

    Gardens by the Bay wins top prize at the World Architecture Festival 2012

    Congratulations go to Wilkinson Eyre Architects as official recipients of the award for the design of the Cooled Conservatories.  Festival Director, Paul Finch generously recognised the magnificent team effort involved in achieving this award stating; 'Choosing a winner was a tough decision, but the winner is a scheme of the highest quality. The jury was insistent that the project should be recognised in the round and that all the design team should have recognition.’

    Tun Razak Exchange launched by Malaysian Prime Minister

    Previously known as the Kuala Lumpur International Finance District, the 30Ha Tun Razak Exchange in Kuala Lumpur was launched by the Malaysian Prime Minister on 30th July. Grant Associates are part of the international masterplanning team with Machado Silvetti Architects and Buro Happold Engineers.

    Harton Quays Park Ground Breaking

    Construction works have begun on Phase One of Harton Quays Park in South Shields, programmed to complete for late spring 2013.  The 2.4Ha Park will provide a new cultural focus and events facility for the town.

    Worcester Library 'The Hive' achieves BREEAM Outstanding

    Grant Associates are public realm and landscape architects for the Hive which has achieved BREEAM Outstanding.

    The design utilises ecological and environmentally responsive features which include species rich habitat planting, productive food gardens, living roofs, SUDs and flood attenuation basins.

    Gardens by the Bay to Open on June 29, 2012

    The first phase of Singapore’s dramatic Gardens by the Bay project opens to the public on 29th June following completion of the 54-hectare £500m Bay South Garden by a world-class British design team led by Grant Associates.

    The project is an integral part of Singapore's "City in a Garden" vision, designed to raise the profile of the city globally whilst showcasing the best of horticulture and garden artistry.

    Overall winner of the 2010 Housing Awards

    Grant Associates are delighted to be part of the team on ICON, Street, Somerset, announced as the overall winner of the 2010 Housing Awards. Judged by a group of panellists from across the industry, including NHBC, HCA, CABE ,RTPI, CLG and the RIBA, the scheme has been praised for its ‘’ evolution of overall layout, house typologies, car park design and integrated streetscape‘’, citing landscape and the inclusion of 40% open space , public squares, long boulevards offset by pedestrian friendly routes and well integrated housing as achieving the ‘’perfect balance of garaging, urban design and day lighting to living space’’.

    Grant Associates were the landscape architects, working with architects Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, developer & contractor Crest Nicholson and Planning Authority Mendip District Council.

    RIBA announces 12 recipients of Honorary Fellowships

    We are delighted that Andrew Grant has been made an Honorary Fellow of the RIBA, being nominated by Peter Clegg. This is a well deserved award recognising Andrew’s passion and commitment to landscape architecture.

    Andrew has personally commented that he also feels that this is a great reflection of the work of the practice and a credit to everyone at Grant Associates that their work is so highly regarded.

    Lime Tree Square - Building for Life 2009 Awards

     
    ‘Among the best housing designed this century.’


    Lime Tree Square, part of the ICON development in Street, Somerset, has been awarded a Building for Life 2009 Award and received the highest ever score of 19/20 for its high standards of sustainable design, as set out by CABE and the Home Builders Federation.

    Grant Associates were the landscape architects, working with FCBS as architects and developers Crest Nicholson.

    DWELLING: ACCORDIA

    This new book, published by Black Dog, is now available in architectural bookshops and other usual literary outlets (ISBN: 9781906155902).

    Produced in collaboration with the architects FCBS, ABA and ML, the book celebrates Accordia’s win of the 2009 RIBA Sterling Prize, and explores our approach to the design process for this hugely successful housing scheme in Cambridge Brooklands.

    The launch event took place in the 18th century House of St Barnabus in Soho, London; a fantastic night had by all.

    Our New Website Has Landed

    Is Landscape Architecture a relevant, rewarding and creative profession?

    In remodelling our website we wanted to project our view that Landscape Architecture is all of this and more. The work reflected in this website is the product of many years’ hard work and evolution of the Grant Associates approach.

    In the process we have been immensely fortunate to have worked on a number of exceptional projects with the very best clients and design teams. In the last year we have enjoyed association with the Stirling Prize winning scheme of Accordia and have increased our international profile through the amazing Gardens by the Bay project in Singapore. 

    We hope everyone who explores this site can see that we love what we do and we want to do more. Bring on the future!

    Upcoming Events

    Andrew Grant has been invited to speak at the DATUM KL 2009 Architecture Conference in Kuala Lumpur on 2nd July, and also at the 46th IFLA World Congress in Rio de Janeiro in October 2009.

    Andrew Grant has also been invited to be a judge for the prestigious President’s Design Award 2009 in Singapore.

    Grant Associates are jointly publishing a book ‘Dwelling Accordia’ with the Stirling Prize winning team of Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, Maccreanor Lavington Architects and Alison Brooks Architects. Book launch due on 8th July 2009.

    Gardens By The Bay Update

    The Gardens' site preparatory work commenced with the closure of the Marina City Park on 1 June 2007.  Soil improvement works are near completion and the infrastructure packages, beginning with the construction of the drainage system and the lake, as well as the main access roads and services, are progressing on target. Piling works for the Supertrees and the Conservatories have also been completed.  Phase 1 of the Gardens is scheduled to open in 2011.

    Grant Associates now has a full time team of 4 landscape architects and 2 architects based at the project’s on-site Staging Office.
