Grant Associates is Highly Commended at Landscape Institute Awards

Grant Associates’ masterplan for the recently completed Bristol Harbourside waterfront regeneration scheme has been Highly Commended at the 2015 Landscape Institute Awards.

The Bath based landscape architect won the accolade in the ‘Design for a Large Scale Development’ category.

Grant Associates’ design to create a public realm for the £120m mixed-use development for developer Crest Nicholson represented the final phase of a 15-year project to regenerate part of Bristol’s historic waterfront.

Working closely with masterplan architects Cullinan Studio, Grant Associates transformed the derelict 6.6 hectare brownfield site of former docks and gas works into a collection of new streetscapes, waterfront walks, public open spaces and a sustainable urban drainage system (SuDS).

Grant Associates’ key focus for the development’s public realm was sustainability based around innovative and water sensitive urban design, and the reconnection of the site with its waterfront location on the edge of Bristol’s floating harbour.

New public spaces created within the development include public squares, tree-lined avenues, floating gardens and harbourside moorings with a new harbour inlet.

The Landscape Institute’s annual awards were this year presented on 26th November at The Brewery, London.
